Topics in Nanotechnology - Molecular Electronics & Synthetic Polymers for Drug Delivery

Abstract

I would like to discuss two topics in nanotechnology that are currently attracting much attention. The first is molecular electronics. I will present work we have performed on adsorption of a cubic SiOH molecule on Si and Au surfaces. The molecular orientation and surface bonding will be shown via STM images and calculations will be compared with the data. In the second part of the talk, we will switch to molecular biology and see if a physicist can make any contributions in this arena. Discussed will be the current state of cancer treatment and the advances that are being attempted via synthetic polymers.
